Police are investigating after a teenager was shot and killed in Long Beach.

The teen was only identified as a 16-year-old boy from Bell, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

On Aug. 4, police responded to a shooting on the 3300 block of 67th Street at around 2:40 p.m. Officers located the teen with multiple gunshot wounds on his upper and lower body. Despite life-saving measures, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators learned the boy’s male relative initially drove him to the area. The teen exited the car and a short time later, returned to the car but was followed by a group of people.

Suddenly, shots were fired and the teen was fatally struck. As the suspects opened fire, the victim’s relative sped away from the scene and called the police.

Shots also struck the relative’s car and the driver sustained a minor injury. Police said it remains unknown whether the relative was struck by gunfire or debris.

The group of suspects fled the area before police arrived. The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unclear and under investigation.

“Detectives believe there were additional witnesses in the area and are encouraging them to come forward,” authorities said.

Anyone with information on the incident is urged to call Homicide Detectives Oscar Valenzuela or Leticia Gamboa at 562-570-7244.
