BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Wedding bells won't be ringing for Michael Bostick anytime soon.

When his fiancee didn't have have his meal ready, Bostick grabbed a wooden stick and beat her, inflicting injuries to her elbow and leg, according to prosecutors. He was found guilty last week of charges including assault with a deadly weapon for the March 2024 attack.

Bostick, 39, was on probation at the time -- for beating the same woman in 2023, prosecutors said.

"It is common for domestic violence victims to remain in unhealthy relationships -- often out of fear, lack of resources or false hope," District Attorney Cynthia Zimmer said in a release. "We recognize the challenges but will continue to fight for those who are in vulnerable positions to speak up for themselves."

Bostick faces up to six years and eight months in prison. Sentencing is set for July 18.
