JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WTAJ) — A Johnstown man is facing felony charges after police found multiple files of toddlers being sexually abused on his devices.
Owen Vaught, 21, is in prison after police conducted an investigation into child pornography (CP) that was uploaded to a Snapchat account, according to a criminal complaint. On Aug. 13, 2023, Snapchat reported that a file of CP was uploaded and reported it to The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
According to the affidavit, Snapchat was able to hand over information about the account including the user's listed birthday, email and IP address. Police were able to determine that Breezeline provided internet to the IP address and then were given the subscriber's name and street address. Police then applied for a search warrant for that address.
During a search of the home, Vaught then allegedly admitted to using the Snapchat account and using it to send and receive CP. He told officers that he had seen CP on Snapchat, Twitter and Kik, according to the complaint. Vaught added that he was in group chats with people requesting CP and that he had saved multiple files from those chats.
