BEECH GROVE, Ind. (WISH) — Two Beech Grove police officers on Monday were shot and taken to an Indianapolis hospital amid an ongoing search for an armed, wanted suspect in the shooting, an Indiana State Police spokesman said.

Sgt. John Perrine of the state police said Kenneth Terrell Johnson opened fire on the two officers as they responded to a disturbance in an apartment.

State police issued a rare Blue Alert for Johnson. By state law, a Blue Alert transmits information to broadcasters and billboard operators about a suspect after a law enforcement officer is killed, seriously injured, or missing in the line of duty. The blue alert did not say where Johnson is from.
