INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Six people were hospitalized and a pet died after a Christmas morning fire on Indy’s southeast side.

The Indianapolis Fire Department says crews were dispatched to a house in the 8600 block of Beechwood Avenue, just off of Franklin Road and English Avenue, around 9:15 a.m. to investigate a residence fire.

IFD told News 8 at the scene that a family of seven was at the home, as well as several animals.

Two children and four adults were taken to hospitals for treatment.

One anomal died at the scene, while two other animals were in “OK” conditions.

IFD says they were still looking for other animals at 10:30 a.m.
