ANDERSON, Ind. (WISH) — An Anderson mom is in custody after police say she fatally shot her 17-year-old daughter at their home early Sunday morning.
The Anderson Police Department announced the arrest in a release Sunday.
The department says around 5 a.m., officers were dispatched to a home in the 2600 block of West 38th Street to investigate a person shot. That address is in a neighborhood on Anderson’s west side, a few minutes north of I-69.
There, they located the 17-year-old suffering a gunshot wound. Officers helped the girl until medics arrived, who then rushed her to a hospital. She died shortly after arrival.
Investigators soon learned that the girl’s mom shot the girl. Others inside the home told police they did not hear or recall any disturbance before the incident, stating “they were awakened by the sound of a gunshot.”
Anderson PD has not released the names of the victim or the suspect. Preliminary charges have not been announced.
