INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — “Behind the Bricks” is back for a new season, kicking things off with an exciting find—a long-lost blueprint revealing a completely alternate vision for the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The 117-year-old document, found in an administrative archive, outlines a proposed 5-mile layout featuring a 3-mile oval and a 2-mile road course—part of founder Carl Fisher’s original vision for the facility.

That plan was ultimately revised to the current 2.5-mile oval to accommodate exterior grandstands, a change engineers at the time recommended to better serve spectators.
