Indiana Senate committee discusses firing squad bill

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An Indiana Senate panel on Tuesday considered a bill that would allow the state to execute inmates by firing squad, with more than one shooter simultaneously firing at the inmate.

Indiana only allows lethal injection on death row inmates.

The bill’s author said the lethal doses can be difficult to obtain and cited its hefty price tag of $300,000 a dose.

The bill’s primary author, State Sen. Michael Young, a Republican from Indianapolis, said at Tuesday’s Senate Committee on Corrections and Criminal Law, “This bill doesn’t say it has to be a firing squad. It says that if they can’t do it chemical methods that this is another alternative left up to them.”
