INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A group of Indiana Republicans have introduced a bill that would require all public schools in the state to display the Ten Commandments in every library and classroom.
State Rep. Michelle Davis (R-Greenwood) authored House Bill 1086, which stipulates “each school corporation shall place a durable poster or framed picture representing the text of the Ten Commandments in each school library and classroom.”
There would be no state funds provided to cover the cost of the displays, according to the latest fiscal note.
The bill is scheduled for a first reading in the Committee on Education when the legislature reconvenes on Monday, Jan. 5. It’s co-authored by State Representatives J.D. Prescott (R-Union City), Hunter Smith (R-Carmel), and Jake Teshka (R-North Liberty).
