Black History Moment: Griot Museum tells stories of historical African Americans

ST. LOUIS - If you want to immerse yourself in education at a historical museum, plan a visit to the Griot Museum of Black History.

Experience life-size wax figures, artifacts, and memorabilia that convey the stories of resilient African Americans contributing to history and growth in our communities. It is only the second museum of its kind in the country.

It opened in 1997 with the original name, the 'Black World History Wax Museum.' The museum's current name, 'Griot,' comes from West African culture. They say the griot is a highly respected community member who collects and preserves the history that is of value and relevance to the community.

In this small museum with a big story, you can discover the journeys of dignitaries like Carter G. Woodson, Josephine Baker, Dred and Harriet Scott, Elizabeth Keckley, William Wells Brown, James Milton Turner, and the list goes on.
