Brooklyn commercial building erupts in 3-alarm fire, nearly 200 FDNY respond

Brooklyn, NY – A large commercial building in Brooklyn caught fire Thursday evening, prompting a massive FDNY response that brought nearly 200 emergency personnel to the scene. Flames were already breaking through the roof by the time first units arrived, officials said.

The fire broke out at 1021 Avenue H, where 63 units and 192 firefighters, EMTs, and officers were dispatched. Crews reached the scene in under four minutes and immediately encountered heavy fire conditions.

“First-arriving units encountered heavy fire through the roof, and additional alarms were quickly transmitted to bring the incident under control,” said Assistant Chief Joseph Duggan Jr.
