INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Catherine O’Hara, legendary actress known for a variety of roles in comedy and mockumentary cinema, has died. She was 71.
Her cause of death was not immediately clear, though her agency confirmed to the Associated Press she died at her Los Angeles home following a “brief illness.”
She is survived by her husband, Bo Welch, and sons Matthew and Luke.
O’Hara’s career launched in the 1970s at Second City in Toronto, where she would first work with lifelong collaborator Eugene Levy. They would later costar in the six-season sitcom “Schitt’s Creek.”
Of her 82 nominations, O’Hara won 35 awards from associations in both the U.S. and Canada, primarily for her work in “Schitt’s Creek” and the 1976 sketch comedy show “SCTV Network 90.”
The latter series would also star and eventually help launch the careers of several other comics, like Martin Short, John Candy, and Andrea Martin.
O’Hara’s dramatic turn in HBO’s “The Last of Us” most recently earned her an Emmy nomination, as did her role as a Hollywood producer in “The Studio.”
