INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Firefighters are working to ventilate a northwest side research facility after a chemical explosion and small fire left one person seriously hurt.
Online police reports show Pike Township firefighters were dispatched to The Heritage Group at 6320 Intech Way just before 11 a.m. on reports of an explosion inside one of the building’s research spaces.
According to Pike Twp. Fire Department Chief Jeff Beam, unspecified chemicals caused the explosion and fire.
The building’s suppression system put out the small fire, but Beam did not specify where the fire was located or how long it took to extinguish.
One person was taken to St. Vincent Hospital with serious injuries, but it was not clear what kind of injuries they sustained.
The Heritage Group said in a statement that Pike Twp. FD is working to ventilate the building and turn off the suppression system.
They plan on releasing further updates once available.
