INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Chevrolet is ramping up excitement at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with a high-horsepower tribute celebrating the United States’ 250th birthday.
On Saturday afternoon, Chevrolet will send its new Corvette ZR1X down a 186-foot line of 250 lit candles, spaced nine inches apart, before the vehicle transitions into a 100-foot-diameter drift through a cloud of smoke.
The stunt is part of a race-weekend celebration tied to America’s 250th birthday and Chevrolet’s role as the official pace car provider for IMS.
At the center of the display is the Corvette ZR1X, which pairs an electrified front axle with a combustion rear axle to deliver 1,250 horsepower. The system allows the car to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in under two seconds.
