12-15-25 FROST BITE
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH)-Emergency rooms across Central Indiana are seeing cold-related injuries like frostbite.
Health professionals say that occurs when skin and underlying tissues freeze, most often affecting the fingers, toes, ears and nose.
Doctors say cover exposed skin, limit time outdoors, and if you notice numbness or color changes, get warm and get help right away.
“We currently have I believe 5 or 6 patients who have been admitted over the past week when the cold spell hit us, especially with the snow,” said Dr. Leigh Spera, M.D., medical director of the Richard M. Fairbanks Burn Center at Eskenazi Health.
