Brightview Landscape Development was awarded a $39 million contract last week to build key features of Carlsbad’s Veterans Memorial Park on 93.7 acres near the intersection of Faraday Avenue and Cannon Road.
It will be the city’s largest park, with a memorial plaza, a shaded pavilion, a 16-foot-tall public art element, outdoor fitness areas, a bicycle pump track, trails, gardens, a parking lot, picnic areas, playgrounds, restrooms and a scenic overlook. More than half the park property will be preserved as habitat for native plants and animals.
“Key elements of the park project include honoring veterans for their service, minimizing environmental impact, and celebrating the site’s natural beauty and scenic views,” states a city report.
The park’s trails will connect to a citywide system for hiking, jogging, biking and dog walking. The City Council unanimously approved the Brightview contract last week.
Construction will coincide with the addition of left-turn lanes at each of the two entrances on Faraday Avenue, along with new road striping and enhanced bike lanes.
Eight contractors submitted responses to the city’s request for proposals by the July 22, 2025, deadline.
