INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Multiple departments converged Friday night on a significant building fire along West 16th Street in Indianapolis, just outside the northeast corner of Indianapolis Motor Speedway, according to a social media post from the Speedway Fire Department.

Indianapolis Fire Department was called just before 8:20 p.m. Friday to the working building fire the 3700 block of West 16th Street.

It was not immediately known if anyone was hurt, or what may have caused the fire. News 8 reached out by email to a spokesperson for Indianapolis Fire Department but did not immediately hear back.

A News 8 camera near Indianapolis Motor Speedway showed the nighttime darkness filled with lights from police vehicles and firetrucks, including a ladder truck.

Speedway Fire Department’s post about 9 p.m. Friday said the fire was under control “but will take time to clean up.”

The post also said its department and the Wayne Township Fire Department joined Indianapolis firefighters at the scene.

The address for the fire in the computer-aided system was for Grace International Church, according to Marion County property records. The church’s website says its mission is “to preach the Gospel to all nations and to minster to Ethiopian and Eritrean communities residing in the Indianapolis area through the teaching and preaching of the infallible Word of God.”
