Cummins unveils largest battery system for data center project

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) — Cummins Inc. will provide its largest-ever battery storage system for a large U.S. data center project to help manage power surges caused by artificial intelligence.

The Columbus-based company said in a news release that the system will help the data center handle rapid changes in electricity use. The batteries can charge and discharge quickly to stabilize the power grid and prevent outages during peak demand.

The release did not say what data center will have the battery storage system.

Jenny Bush, president of Cummins’ Power Systems business, said in the release that battery storage gives data center operators more flexibility to scale their power needs as they grow.
