Daleville man convicted of attempted murder in shooting at police officers

MUNCIE, Ind. (WISH) — A Delaware County jury deliberated for two hours on Wednesday before convicting a Daleville man for attempting to kill a police officer.

According to Delaware County prosecutors, 50-year-old Trenton Patterson has been convicted with attempted murder, a top-level felony, in a trial that started Monday. The jury also found Patterson should receive a sentencing enhancement for the use of the firearm.

Daleville Police Department Officer Adam Curtis just before 8 p.m. Feb. 15, 2024, stopped a sedan, according to a police investigation done by Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputy Matthew Kubiak. Patterson was front-seat passenger in the sedan, and Curtis knew Patterson had active arrest warrants on felony charges.

Curtis called for assistance from the Daleville Police Department.

After Patterson exited the sedan, as instructed by officers, he ran. Curtis used a taser on Patterson but it had no effect.

Court documents said he fired at them in the 14700 block of West Main Street, aka State Road 32, in Daleville. That block is near the Daleville Town Hall.

A manhunt ensued, and Patterson was found the next day in an abandoned car. He gave himself up after a county special weapons and tactics team fired tear gas at the car.

This week’s trial was Patterson’s second.
