Malta, a beautiful island nation in the Mediterranean full of culture, wonder, history and beauty, is unlike any other place on Earth. It is also like every other place on Earth because it has people — and where you find people, you find some who need guidance, expertise and assistance.
Malta is where you will find designer Dana Carmont, an Australian swimsuit designer and serial entrepreneur who is helping empower women across the island. Her mother’s birthplace, Malta was always close to her heart.
When Dana and her husband moved to Malta eight years ago and opened a wine and cheese bar, she met lots of people but noticed there wasn’t a female entrepreneurial community. So she started what began as an expat women-first network, which has since expanded to an NGO, Female Entrepreneurs Malta. She also set up a campaign to give used and unused bras to women in shelters across Malta, started “Coats for a Cause” that distributes donated women’s coats and jackets to needy recipients and opened a funky retail boutique that not only showcases her own designs, but also provides training for women in how to own and operate their own retail endeavours.
“I love being able to see women grow with businesses,” says Carmont. “It really is meaningful to see the growth in our women’s community. It really is amazing.”
The small Mediterranean Island nation is home to some of the world’s most creative artists, designers and influencers.
