WARMINSTER, Pa. (AP) — Bob Brooks won the Democratic Party’s nomination Tuesday to run in a swing congressional district in eastern Pennsylvania.
Brooks, the state firefighters’ union president, is in his first run for office and has the backing of Gov. Josh Shapiro and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.
Brooks won a four-way primary for the right to challenge freshman Republican Rep. Ryan Mackenzie in the Allentown-area district.
Among those Brooks beat was Ryan Crosswell, a former Department of Justice anti-corruption prosecutor who quit when President Donald Trump’s administration dropped corruption charges against New York City Mayor Eric Adams in return for Adams’ cooperation on immigration enforcement.
