INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indiana drivers will be pulled over if they drink and drive this Labor Day weekend, said a news release issued Friday from the office of Republican Gov. Mike Braun.
Indiana State Police and local officers will increase patrols and conduct sobriety checkpoints through Monday across the state, the release said.
“Impaired driving takes lives every single day, and each of those losses is 100% preventable,” Braun said in the release. “Buckle up, slow down, and if you’re drinking, plan a safe ride home before the celebration starts.”
The governor’s office reports that drugs or alcohol contributed to 86 crashes in Indiana during the 2025 Labor Day weekend. Two people died, and 29 others were injured in the crashes.
Federal data shows alcohol was involved in nearly 23% of Indiana’s fatal crashes in 2025. Drugs were involved in more than 41%.
Indiana law prohibits driving with a blood-alcohol count of 0.08% or higher. However,...
