A person was killed and a driver was arrested after a two-vehicle crash on state Route 67 in Poway on Saturday, California Highway Patrol officials said.

The crash was reported around 11:30 p.m. Saturday on SR-67 where Rio Maria Road and Scripps Poway Parkway meet, CHP Officer Jasmine Lopez said.

Witnesses said a Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a 39-year-old man entered the intersection while a Honda Civic — driven by a 33-year-old San Diego man — was making a left turn on a green light onto Scripps Poway Parkway, Lopez said.

The SUV and sedan collided, causing fatal injuries to a woman riding as a passenger in the Honda, according to investigators. Another female passenger in the car suffered major injuries and was taken to a hospital. The driver was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Officials said the Chevrolet’s driver fled the scene on foot, the CHP said. He was later arrested Sunday.

It is not immediately known if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash, Lopez said.

The roadway was shut down into Sunday morning for the investigation and cleanup.
