Driver arrested on suspicion of DUI after crash in East Village

A 20-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI after a crash Saturday night in the East Village neighborhood of San Diego that left a passenger with serious injuries, authorities said.

The man was driving a Kia Optima west on F Street at 15th Street shortly before 8:15 p.m. at a high rate of speed when it broadsided a southbound Subaru Forester driven by a 37-year-old man in the intersection, police said.

The Optima then hit a parked Ford F-150 that was pushed into a parked Toyota Corolla.

A passenger in the Subaru was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, including a brain bleed and a ruptured diaphragm, police said.
