INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — After his family members urged him to, a man turned himself in Tuesday after striking a pedestrian with his car and killing him.

25-year-old Jevontae Wilkins was driving near the 3400 block of Shadeland Avenue, off East 34th Street, on Monday night when he struck an adult white male.

Wilkins immediately fled the scene.

A release from Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department on Wednesday says the male was pronounced dead at the scene by Indianapolis Fire Department.

After photographing the scene, speaking to witnesses, and collecting evidence, detectives say it didn’t take long to identify Wilkins as the suspect.
