SHOALS, Ind. (WISH) — Indiana conservation officers were searching for an 82-year-old Fortville man after the truck he was driving was swept off a flooded road Monday in Martin County, according to a news release issued Tuesday afternoon from the Department of Natural Resources.
Search teams were using sonar equipment and conducting surface searches to find James Petty and the submerged truck. High water levels and swift currents complicated the efforts.
Martin County dispatch received a 911 call at 2:37 p.m. Monday from the passenger of the truck, who had managed to escape as water overtook the vehicle. Floodwaters swept the truck from Spout Springs Road, located south of Shoals and the East Fort of the White River. It’s an area prone to flooding, the release said.
