INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Federal Trade Commission issued an alert this week warning that scammers are using artificial intelligence to clone car dealership websites.

These fraudulent sites replicate brand logos, vehicle listings, photos, and customer testimonials from legitimate dealerships. Shoppers who attempt to buy vehicles through these sites risk having personal information stolen.

Rosario Mendez, assistant director of the FTC’s Division of Consumer and Business Education, said the agency released the alert quickly so consumers can identify the fraud.
