Funeral services announced for Notre Dame’s former coach Lou Holtz

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WISH) — Notre Dame has announced funeral services for former football coach Lou Holtz, who passed away at the age of 89 on March 4.

On January 30, Holtz’s family posted to Facebook, sharing that he was facing a health challenge.

Holtz coached the Fighting Irish for 11 seasons, helping the program capture the national championship in the 1988 season. That championship is actually the last time the Fighting Irish have won the college football national title.

Overall, Holtz won 249 games as a collegiate head coach, 100 of which were during his time (1986-96) at Notre Dame. In addition to Notre Dame, Holtz was a college football head coach at William & Mary (1969-71), NC State (1972-75), Arkansas (1977-83), Minnesota (1984-85) and South Carolina (1999-2004).

Holtz was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2008.
