INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Funeral services are set this week for Lois Eskenazi, one of the benefactors of Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis.
Eskenazi died Jan. 4 at her part-time home in Florida. She was 92.
The former Lois Cohen was raised in the Pullman District of Chicago and met her future husband, Sidney Eskenazi, when they were students at Indiana University.
The couple was married for over 70 years and raised three children–Sandra, Dori, and David. Lois Eskenazi was a talented painter who exhibited her work at the Hoosier Salon and the Indiana State Fair.
Sidney Eskenazi became a successful real estate developer, and in 2011, the couple gave $40 million to help build the Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital just west of downtown to replace the aging Wishard Hospital.
The Eskenazis were also dedicated philanthropists They founded the Sidney D. & Lois Eskenazi Hospital and Health Foundation and contributed to the establishment of both the Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Museum of Art and the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design at Indiana University in Bloomington.
She is survived by her husband, her three children—Sandra Eskenazi, Dori Meyers, and David Eskenazi—and her grandchildren: Sara, Zoie, Samantha, Ethan, Mae, Sophie, and Ella. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
