GRIFFITH, Ind. (WISH) — Lake County prosecutors on Wednesday filed charges against a man accused of running over another in a business parking lot Monday morning, police say.
Atrailu Moore, 38, of Gary, was listed as an inmate of the Lake County jail as of Wednesday afternoon.
Griffith Police Department officers arrested Moore after responding to a “fatal pedestrian incident” at a business area along East Ridge Road in Griffith.
When police arrived, they found the victim, Tony Pendleton, with severe injuries lying in a parking lot. Police say Pendleton was a local business owner, and had reportedly been hit by a red Jeep Grand Cherokee. He died sometime after the incident.
It was not clear which business Pendleton owned or if the accident took place near his business.
Investigators say after reviewing security camera footage, speaking with witnesses, and processing the vehicle, they learned the driver of the Jeep had a “brief interaction” with Pendleton before the accident.
The driver, Moore, followed Pendleton through the parking lot of a business, spoke with him, and then hit him with the Jeep.
Officers say Moore was still at the scene when they arrived.
