Grant County woman accused of shooting husband to death

MARION, Ind. (WISH) — A 67-year-old woman was arrested following the shooting death of her husband at a home near Marion, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday night.

Sandra Gray was preliminary charged with murder in connection with the death of Thomas W. Gray, 74. Online court records on Wednesday night did not show a case filed against Sandra Gray in Grant County.

Grant County sheriff’s deputies just before 6 a.m. Wednesday went to a reported shooting in the 100 block of North County Road 700 East. That’s just northeast of the I-69 interchange for State Road 18, near the border with the city of Marion.

Deputies found Thomas Gray inside the home with a gunshot wound to the chest. He died at the shooting scene.

Shortly after the shooting. Sandra Gray went at a truck stop off the I-69 interchange in Marion. She called 911 to report that she had shot her husband. She was taken into custody without incident and later questioned at the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

A preliminary autopsy confirmed that Thomas Gray was shot once in the chest.

What led to the shooting was not shared in a sheriff’s office news release issued Wednesday night, and the case remained an active investigation. Anyone with information was asked to contact the Grant County Sheriff’s Office criminal investigations division.
