WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WISH) — The No. 7 Purdue Boilermakers are in full control at the halftime break against arch rival Indiana, leading the Hoosiers 46-32.
The Boilers took control early in front of a sold-out Mackey Arena crowd. Senior guards Braden Smith and Fletcher Loyer drained back-to-back three-pointers to run out to a 6-0 lead.
The Hoosiers stayed close thanks to a couple treys by senior forward Tucker DeVries, but by the 6:52 mark, the Boilers extended the lead to 12.
Purdue’s seniors are carrying most of the production. Trey Kaufman-Renn leads all scorers with 14 points, while Smith walked into halftime with 13. Add in Loyer’s 10 and the Boilermaker seniors have combined for 37 of Purdue’s 46 first half points.
IU’s scoring is led by Reid Bailey and Tucker DeVries, who each have eight.
