Halftime: IU leads Miami 10-0 in National Championship

MIAMI, Fla. (WISH) — The Indiana Hoosiers take the lead into halftime of the National Championship against the Miami Hurricanes.

Hoosiers tight end Riley Nowakowski scored the only touchdown of the game so far with a 1-yard run, while quarterback Fernando Mendoza completed 12 of 17 passes for 116 yards.

IU’s first points of the game came at the end of a 12-play, 55-yard drive in the first quarter. Kicker Nico Radicic made a 34-yard field goal to get the Hoosiers on the board first.

Meanwhile, the IU defense successfully shut out Carson Beck and the Canes offense in the first half. Miami had a 50-yard field goal chance with :33 left in the first half, but Canes kicker Carter Davis hit the right upright, leaving the score 10-0.

Other notable stats: Lawrence North alum Omar Cooper Jr. has caught three passes for 39 yards, while Elijah Sarratt has 28 yards off three grabs.

Beck has thrown only 10 times, completing six passes for 49 yards.

IU’s offense is outpacing Miami with 11 first downs compared to the Canes’ three. The Hoosiers also have 169 total yards in the first half, which is 100 yards more than Miami.
