INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A suspect in a November burglary and homicide on Indy’s east side has turned themselves in, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
Online jail records show Antwan Hayes, 19, was booked into the Marion County jail on Thursday on charges of murder and burglary.
The shooting took place around 5:20 a.m. Nov. 11 in the 3500 block of North Oxford Street. That’s a residential area near 34th Street and Keystone Avenue, just north of Washington Park.
When officers arrived, they found 23-year-old Kenneth Murff Jr. suffering a gunshot wound.
IMPD first reported that Murff was “awake and breathing,” but he later died.
During the investigation, detectives identified Hayes as a suspect, issuing a warrant for his arrest on Nov. 17.
Then, after what IMPD says was “months of relentless pursuit,” Hayes turned himself into police on New Year’s Day.
Hayes is due in court Tuesday afternoon for a hearing; IMPD says Hayes should be considered innocent until proven guilty.
