NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — Crews will begin collecting flood debris from curbsides starting Monday in Hamilton County.
County officials ask residents in areas hit by flooding to use the weekend to move debris to the edge of the street. To help the cleanup happen faster, residents should separate materials into specific piles.
Hamilton County Commissioner Christine Altman, in a news release, urged residents to move and separate their debris over the weekend, noting that proper sorting helps crews finish the neighborhood cleanups more quickly.
Crews cannot enter private property to pick up items. All materials must be placed in the public right-of-way but should not block the road, fire hydrants, utility boxes, or meters.
Residents should group debris into these six categories:
- Electronics: Televisions, computers, and other electronic gear.
- Yard waste: Trees, limbs, bushes, and leaves.
- Building materials: Drywall, lumber, carpet, and furniture.
- Large appliances: Refrigerators, washers, dryers, and stoves.
- Hazardous waste: Paint, oil, batteries, and cleaning supplies.
