INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — State Sen. Andrea Hunley on Friday announced she will not seek reelection this year.

Hunley, a Democrat whose district covers downtown Indianapolis and the near east side, was first elected to the state Senate in 2022 and became assistant minority leader in December 2024. She is a former English teacher and school principal.

In a statement posted to her campaign Facebook page, Hunley said she plans to finish out her term, which expires at the end of the year.
