INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Two ceremonies were held last week for new memorial signs to honor two Marion County line-of-duty deaths, a Facebook post from North District IMPD said Monday.

On Monday, Feb. 9, a ceremony was held at 5900 E. 82nd Street for Deputy Gerald Morris, who was shot and killed while responding to a robbery on Jan. 2, 1981.

On Friday, Feb. 13, at the intersection of 26th Street and Capital Avenue, a second memorial sign was displayed to honor Indiana Police Department Officer David S. Richards who was fatally shot on July 2, 1879, while searching for a gang of horse thieves.

Deputy Terry Baker was killed at the same time and place as Deputy Morris. IMPD said they will have another roll call to dedicate Baker’s sign. Deputy Baker was off-duty and not in uniform while working a part-time job; he was at a restaurant nearby and responded to the scene, where he was shot in the head at close range.
