IMPD officer suspended without pay after felony battery arrest

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A seven-year member of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department was arrested Friday on a felony battery charge following an investigation into an off-duty fight.

Officer Taylor Jones, 43, surrendered to the department’s violent crimes unit on Friday after a warrant was issued for his arrest. Online court records on Friday night did not show a case yet filed for Jones.

The arrest stemmed from a physical fight that happened just after 10:30 a.m. Feb. 21 at Crunch Fitness, 6160 N. Keystone Ave. Jones was off duty at the time of the fight with another man.

IMPD’s special investigations unit responded and learned Jones was involved in the fight. Investigators interviewed everyone involved along with several witnesses. An evidence technician documented injuries sustained by both Jones and the other man.

Following the investigation, detectives presented the case to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office for a charging decision. On Friday, an arrest warrant was issued in Marion Superior Court D18. Jones faces a low-level felony count of battery resulting in moderate bodily injury.
