INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indiana National Guard officials on Friday said they will send personnel to southern Indiana ahead of a massive snowstorm predicted to hit during the weekend.
National Guard commanders said about 110 soldiers and airmen will be deployed in 12 highway assistance teams, along with a command and control team in Evansville.
The Guard’s highway assistance teams will focus on U.S. 41 between Evansville and Vincennes, I-64 between New Albany and Evansville, I-65 from New Albany to Columbus and I-69 from Evansville to Bloomington. They will help stranded drivers along with state police, and personnel from the state departments of Transportation and Homeland Security.
Forecasters expect southern Indiana will be hit the hardest this weekend, with as much as a foot of snow or more in areas stretching from the Ohio River to a line running through roughly Washington, Bloomington, Columbus and Richmond. Central Indiana is expected to get roughly 7 to 10 inches, with less snowfall farther north.
