INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indiana is reporting cleaner rivers and streams throughout the state according to a Thursday press release from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM).

New data submitted to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency shows that more than 43,000 miles of Indiana waterways were evaluated.

The state also reported that there are now almost twenty-five more miles of unimpaired waters since 2024.

E.P.A. leaders say the improvement reflect ongoing efforts to track pollution and restore water quality.

However, officials say that some challenges do remain. Issues like E-coli and other pollutatns are still impacting some areas in the state.

Officals say that progress is being made toward healthier waterways statewide.
