Indiana task force arrests 2 19-year-olds, alleges they had illegal weapons

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Detectives with the Indiana Crime Guns Task Force last week arrested two 19-year-old men following an investigation into firearms and narcotics, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department announced on Monday afternoon on social media.

Ovando Richardson and Jordon Spearman, both of Indianapolis, were taken March 9 into custody for offenses involving stolen weapons, a machine gun conversion device and illegal drugs, the post said.

Online records showed cases filed without charges against Richardson and Spearman in Marion Superior Court 3 on Monday. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will determine whether charges are filed.

The investigation began on March 6 in the 3100 block of Brouse Avenue. That’s in the Blackburn Terrace apartments that are northwest of the intersection of East 30th Street and North Keystone Avenue. The release said detectives observed Richardson in a parking lot carrying a handgun with a drum-style magazine, which led to the encounter and the subsequent arrests.

Detectives said they recognized Richardson from previous investigations and were aware that he was prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior felony conviction.
