OTTERBEIN, Ind. (WISH) — A nearly mile-long asphalt trail has been completed in town of Otterbein, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources announced in a Monday news release.
A Natural Resources grant of $718,720 issued in 2022 helped the town government to complete the Dirk Studebaker Trail. Studebaker is a former member of the law enforcement division of Natural Resources and a former town councilor.
The total cost of the trail was not listed in the release.
The trail runs along the north side of Oxford Street, extending from the trailhead at the intersection with County Line Road and Meadow Street to Lindsay Lane, the release said. The project also includes a new pedestrian bridge over the Otterbein Ditch and connects the town, Otterbein Commons and Otterbein Foods near U.S. 52.
Otterbein Clerk-Treasurer Treeva Sarles, in the release, described the trail as a long-held vision for the community and noted it now “provides a safe way to travel to the church, grocery store, and apartments, rather than walking or biking in the roadway,” Oxford Street.
Otterbein, a town of about 1,100 people that straddles the border of Benton and Tippecanoe counties, is about a 20-minute drive northwest of West Lafayette.
