INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A 58-year-old woman is in the hospital after Indianapolis firefighters rescued her from her burning bedroom, an Indianapolis Fire Department Facebook post said.
The department said the woman called 911 at a little after 9:30 Saturday morning and told operators she was trapped in a fire in her two story apartment building at 6131 Dickson Road.
Firefighters initially arrived to find nothing showing from the building but found heavy smoke in the apartment on the first floor.
Within one minute of entry, firefighters found the woman barely conscious. Lawrence firefighters took her to Eskenazi Hospital in serious condition.
IFD firefighters brought two adults and a teenager down from the second-floor unit. Indiana emergency medical services took the teen to Riley to be checked out, reportedly in good condition.
IFD said the fire was contained within eight minutes. Preliminary information suggests the fire was accidental, possible an electrical fire.
IFD said 10 people were evacuated from the four-unit apartment building but not displaced.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
