Firefighters rescue pets from burning home

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Indianapolis firefighters saved four dogs and a cat from a west side house fire on Thursday morning.

Indianapolis Fire Department crews responded around 2:20 a.m. to a home on Tibbs Avenue near 20th Street, just a few blocks east of Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Firefighters at the scene told News 8 that the blaze began in the basement. A combination of cold weather and the home’s design made it difficult for crews to reach the flames.

The family inside the home escaped unhurt, and the five pets were unharmed.

No firefighters were injured.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
