Indianapolis man charged, accused of shooting wife in front of kids

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Prosecutors on Sunday filed charges against an Indianapolis man accused of fatally shooting his wife while their four children were present at home.

On Dec. 28, 44-year-old Jeri Mains died at a hospital after being shot in the driveway of a home in the 8100 block of Meadow Bend Lane on Indianapolis’ southeast side.

Charging documents detailing the incident say dispatchers received multiple 911 calls from Jeri Mains’ children, saying their father, Cecil Mains, had shot their mother before fleeing the scene in his gray Toyota Tundra.

Cecil Mains, 46, was eventually located on Five Points Road near Edgewood Avenue, and was taken into custody during a traffic stop.

When speaking with Mains’ children, detectives learned that Cecil Mains arrived at the home earlier that day and removed a gun from a safe.
