BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) — The 75th running of the Little 500 collegiate bike race on April 24-25 at Indiana University Bloomington’s Bill Armstrong Stadium is expected to draw a record 30,000 spectators, the college said in a news release issued Monday.
The inaugural race on May 12, 1951, raised $6,000 for scholarships for working students. This year’s proceeds will support the Students Helping Students campaign, an initiative providing IU students with funding for essential needs including food, housing and health care.
The fundraising campaign begins with Little 500 Qualifications on March 28.
The women’s Little 500 is scheduled for 4 p.m. April 24. The men’s race will be at 2 p.m. April 25. Tickets, available through Ticketmaster, are expected to sell out. A check found tickets available Monday night at $50 each for adults, $40 each for IU Bloomington students, a $35 group rate, and $20 each for children 12 and younger. Beer garden tickets for age 21 and older were $155 each.
Anniversary celebrations will include the free premiere of the documentary “More Than a Race” at 7 p.m. April 21 at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. It’ll including screenings of the “Two Days in April” docuseries, and a panel discussion.
