Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson Reunite for ‘Hunger Games’ Prequel — Here’s What Fans Can Expect

Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to the arena!

The Hunger Games actors will be making an appearance in the upcoming film The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. According to The Hollywood Reporter, both actors will reprise their original roles — Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen and Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark — likely appearing in a flash-forward. At the end of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2 (2015), Katniss and Peeta were married with children.

Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from Suzanne Collins’ 2025 novel and marks the second prequel in the franchise, following 2023’s The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. The story takes place 24 years before the first Hunger Games and 40 years after the events of The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, focusing on Haymitch Abernathy during the 50th Hunger Games, years before he becomes the mentor seen in the original films.

While it’s unclear exactly how Lawrence and Hutcherson’s cameo will look like, book readers will know that their beloved characters appear alongside Haymitch in the epilogue.
