Jewelry, art, and community: Locals celebrate Kwanzaa

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Friday marks the first day of Kwanzaa, a week-long cultural celebration centered on African American heritage and values. While each day focuses on a different principle, local families said day one sets the tone.

The Amp at 16 Tech in Indianapolis hosted their annual “Umoja Kwanzaa Celebration.” At each vendor booth, colorful beads or unique patterns may catch your eye. One vendor told News 8 she makes pottery all year round to prepare people for Kwanzaa. Ranging from unity drinking glasses, weaved baskets, and placemats, to candle holders.
