La Porte woman faces multiple charges after fleeing hospital exam room

LA PORTE, Ind. (WISH) — After an initial traffic stop, a woman faces multiple charges.

Deputy Austin Wells initiated a traffic stop Tuesday night just before 9 p.m. on a gray Tesla on Pine Lake Avenue, right off West Johnson Road and West Servers Road, after observing the vehicle with only one working headlight and an expired registration sticker.

The driver, 43-year-old, Laquintae Taborn, was taken into custody after exhibiting argumentative behavior and displaying signs of impairment, according to Deputy Wells. Probable cause for her arrest was established related to an unknown incident that took place earlier Tuesday.

During her time at the La Porte County Jail, Taborn was transported to a nearby hospital for medical clearance. While in an emergency exam room, she attempted to flee, resisting staff directions. Taborn ran from her exam room to another, attempting to hide behind a privacy curtain.

Wells intervened to escort her back, but Taborn resisted and became physically aggressive, kicking Wells in the chest and head. She continued to struggle until additional assistance arrived to secure her to the hospital bed.

Taborn now faces multiple charges, including battery of a public safety official, a low level felony, resisting law enforcement, a misdemeanor, and several operating while intoxicated (OWI) offenses including a felony for prior conviction and misdemeanor for endangerment.
