
Man gunned down on Benning Road as DC police hunt killer
WASHINGTON, DC — A late-night shooting in Northeast Washington left a 26-year-old man dead, prompting a homicide investigation and a reward for information.
Officers responded around 10:10 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, to the 2000 block of Benning Road Northeast, where they found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency crews transported the victim to a nearby hospital, but he later died from his injuries despite lifesaving efforts.
Police identified the victim as 26-year-old Jamal Blakes, who had no fixed address.
Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
Authorities are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case.
